I spent Spring 2019 studying in the Population Studies Department at the University of Botswana, researching, conducting interviews, visiting government and private schools and creating curriculum for Stillwater students and fellow geographic educators.
My Fulbright Inquiry Project entitled "Botswana: Harnessing the Demographic Dividend to Achieve the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals" focused on understanding changing population demographics in Botswana and efforts by government, education and NGOs to harness the power of youth for progress toward the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, I sought out connections for future dialogue between U.S. and Batswana youth on sustainable development topics. In these lessons, learners have the opportunity to increase their global competence by investigating Botswana’s population and development dynamics, explore their own and Batswana perspectives on sustainable development issues, dialogue with Batswana learners using digital technologies and take personal and collective action for the Global Goals.
